Question: Who attends Rogers in Kindergarten in 2009-10?
Answer: In 2009-10, entering kindergartners will be required to complete a lottery application. These students will be admitted according to their lottery number, Advantaged/Disadvantaged status, and the priority categories, below. Note that students in Preference Area 1 and Preference Area 2 are districted to Toquam Magnet School.

Question: Who attends Rogers in grade 1 in 2009-10?
Answer: All kindergartners enrolled in Rogers in 2008-09 will be required to apply through the lottery for admission to grade 1 in 2009-10. Lottery applications are due by March 2, 2009 and should be submitted to Rogers School. Pending a budgetary decision, it is anticipated that all these students will be able to continue at Rogers as first graders in 2009-10.
Question: Who attends Rogers in grades 2-5 in 2009-10?
Answer: Students enrolled in Rogers in grades 1-4 in 2008-09 will be automatically admitted to Rogers in grades 2-6 in 2009-10. These students will not need to complete a lottery application. They will be asked to complete a Letter of Intent so that we are able to plan effectively for the coming school year.
Question: Who attends Rogers in grades 6 in 2009-10?
Answer: Students enrolled in Rogers in grade 5 in 2008-09 will be automatically admitted to Rogers in grades 6 in 2009-10. These students will not need to complete a lottery application. They will be asked to complete a Letter of Intent so that we are able to plan effectively for the coming school year. Additionally, out of town students will be admitted to grade 6 at Rogers. If enrollment to Rogers in grade 6 for 2009-10 is undersubscribed, a lottery will be reopened in April 2009 for Stamford residents.
Question: Who attends Rogers in grade 6 in 2010-11 and thereafter?
Answer: In 2010-11 and through 2013-14, incoming sixth graders (students in grades 1-4 in 2008-09) will be automatically admitted to Rogers and do not need to complete a lottery application. If there are available seats, these will be offered to out of town students in order to maximize reimbursement dollars from the Connecticut State Department of Education. Beginning in 2014, all incoming sixth graders will be required to apply through the lottery process. Admission will follow the priority categories as stated above.
Question: Must students residing in Rogers’ Preference Area 1 or Preference Area 2 attend Rogers?
Answer: No. These students are assigned to Toquam and may be enrolled automatically to Toquam without completing a lottery application to Toquam Magnet School.
Question: Are Rogers’ students in grades K-5 required to continue at Rogers in grades 6, 7, and 8?
Answer: No. Rogers’ students have three options. They may continue at Rogers. Or, they may continue at their districted middle school. Or they may apply to Scofield Magnet Middle School. Rippowam is the districted middle school for students in the Rogers’ attendance area.
Question: How will students be recruited from out of town?
Answer: Rogers will be required to include at least 25% of its students in 2009-10 from out of town; hence we are targeting 30%. Out of town students will be actively recruited in grades K and 1. Siblings in grades 2-6 of incoming kindergartners and first graders from out of town will be admitted to Rogers, space permitting. Out of town students will be recruited by Cooperative Educational Services (CES), with assistance from the Rogers’ staff.
Question: Will there be a Bilingual Program at EMS?
Answer: The Bilingual Program currently at Rogers serves students from Rogers’ current attendance area, which is Preference Area 1. This program will continue at Rogers, in compliance with state and federal requirements.
Question: If students move out of Preference Area 1 or Preference Area 2, will they be permitted to remain at Rogers?
Answer: The Board of Education’s Magnet Policy #5117.2 permits students who move out of the attendance area of a magnet school to remain in the magnet school until the end of the school year. The following year, these students are required to attend their new school. This policy will apply to students living in the Preference Areas of Rogers.
