Program Criteria: Bilingual Education

Serves second language learners whose native language is Spanish or Haitian (for  9-12 grades)
The program is created when  20+ students who qualify for services are enrolled in the schools
 
ENTRY CRITERIA–
  • Two or more "yes" answers in the Home Language Survey upon registration
  • Native Language: Spanish or Haitian Creole (for secondary only)
  • LAS Oral  Proficiency Level 1 or 2.
  • English Language Proficiency Interview (LAU)
  • All 9th and 10th graders registered prior to October 1st are eligible to the Bilingual Program
  • After October 1st, all newly registered tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grade students must instead take their subject areas in a sheltered/English as a Second Language Progra
 
EXIT CRITERIA
  • Opt out
  • 30 months in the program or
  • LAS (Language Assessment Scale) Level 4 or above (all grades) and
  • DRA (Diagnostic Reading Assessment)Grade Level Proficient (K-2)
  • CMT (Reading, MathSubtests) Proficient Level, Writing Basic level or above (3-8)
  • CAPT (Reading, Math Subtests) Proficient Level, Writing Basic level or above (Grade 9)
  • CAPT(Reading, Math, Writing Subtest ) Basic Level or above  (Grade 10-12)
