Developing Futures : SPS-GE Foundation Partnership
The SPS Partnership with the GE Foundation
On October 19, 2006, the GE Foundation awarded Stamford Public Schools (SPS) $15.3 million over five years to implement the College Bound District Program (The program is now known as Developing Futures in Education™). SPS collaborates fully with the Stamford Education Association, Stamford Administrative Unit, and Board of Education as it utilizes the Developing Futures' resources to improve student learning in math and science. Teachers, administrators and Central office leaders have worked since the beginning of the grant to collaborate in order to implement common, rigorous, standards-based curriculum in math and science for all students and to ensure that each SPS student graduates ready for college.
Other Developing Futures districts include Jefferson County
Public Schools
(Louisville, KY), Cincinnatti Public Schools
, Erie City Schools (Erie, PA), and the Atlanta Public Schools. Dudley Williams, GE District Education Strategy Relations Manager, is the primary liaison between SPS and the GE Foundation. More information about the Developing Futures in Education™ program across districts can be found at http://www.ge.com/foundation/grant_initiatives/education/collegebound01.html
