What are CEU Equivalents?
Equivalents can be granted for planned continuing education experiences directly related to improving student learning, and for which CEU credit is not otherwise available. Such professional development experiences might include participation at a conference or workshop sponsored by an outside organization. CEU equivalents are only available to school district personnel by mutual, pre-arranged agreement with the Director of School Improvement and Professional Learning.
How do I earn CEU Equivalents?
In Stamford, CEU equivalents may be granted through submission of an application to the Director of School Improvement and Professional Learning at least one month prior to the occurrence of the professional development activity. This form is available here (CEU Equivalent Request Form) and in the BOE EZTraxx Public Folder in Outlook.
If the professional development activity is approved for CEU equivalents, then the participant must submit documentation following the activity to verify attendance. Acceptable forms of documentation may include a certificate of participation, a conference agenda, or a course syllabus, as a few examples. Documentation should be submitted to the Director of School Improvement and Professional Learning .
Once I have received approval for CEU Equivalents and submitted the required attendance documentation, how do I record these CEUs in EZTraxx?
When you submit documentation indicating your attendance at the professional development activity, then the District CEU Coordinator will log this activity with the appropriate number of CEU equivalents in your EZTraxx account.
Can I obtain CEU Equivalents for Graduate Courses I've completed?
Teachers do not need to apply for and receive CEU Equivalents for graduate course credits from Stamford. For your information, should a professional educator certificate holder be randomly audited at the time of application (ED 179) for continuation of a professional educator certificate, then the teacher may submit an official graduate transcript at that time. The employing district does not need to award CEU equivalents for the completion of graduate coursework since a graduate transcript will suffice for the random audit.
Three semester hours of graduate credit completed at any regionally accredited institution is equal to 4.5 (45 contact hours) CEUs. For example, a professional educator certificate holder may choose to complete two graduate courses within the five-year period of their professional educator certificate, in order to have the equivalent of 9.0 CEUs necessary to apply for another professional educator certificate.
