Professional Development
The Stamford Public Schools offer teachers, administrators and our entire instructional staff an array of courses to meet their professional learning needs as they work towards improving student achievement. This is offered both within the schools, after the workday and on Saturdays. Many workshops being offered this year are in a two-session format, with time in between to practice the learned skill.
"What if . . . every citizen of this school were committed to the same goals: to be a lifelong learner, to discover new knowledge, to help design and construct the learning organization, to share in the decision making, and to live and work as colleagues?"- Roland Barth, Learning by Heart, p.27
As a district, we are now moving towards creating collaborative Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). Various groups are studying the work done in PLCs while others are determining what needs to be done to prepare each and every instructor for this kind of collaborative work. The Stamford Professional Development Advisory Council (PDAC) is made up of teachers and administrators respresenting all Stamford Public schools. In 2006-2007, the PDAC was charged to set the standards for PLCs in all of our schools. |
