In Charlie Langworth’s 7th grade Math class at Rippowam, “every child can learn” is not just a saying, not just a slogan. Mr. Langworth’s belief that all children can and will achieve is manifested in his high expectations and the level of accountability to which each child is held. Every interaction and word of encouragement pushes students to actively participate in their own learning. Each student is fully supported to reach his/her highest potential. Mr. Langworth sets a positive tone with clear routines and purposeful time on task. Students aren’t afraid to share and explore successes or mistakes. Wrong answers are seen as an opportunity for analysis and further learning. Mr. Langworth chose teaching as a second career as an avenue to “pass on what was instilled in me.” Self-described as “not a great student,” Mr. Langworth uses his own life experiences to guide children to think about their own futures. Every day he models responsible behavior, enthusiastic energy, and a respectful attitude towards
his students and colleagues. As a member of Mr. Langworth’s class, each student has the respect of an old friend and fellow scholar.
